ANDREW MILNE

Drew

2008 CLUB CAPTAIN

BATTING: Right handed, top order batsman.
Favourite shot is the back-foot punch through the covers or the premeditated slog over cow corner!

BOWLING: Vicious leg-spin.
Bowler of the season in 2005 and the second highest wicket taker in both 2006 and 2007.

FIELDING: A great shot stopper (…due to his massive bulk!) and with good pair of hands!

Andrew is Cairns Fudge’s monster all-rounder whose leg-spin could bamboozle Tendulka when on song and who’s batting can up the tempo of any innings. Taking the mighty Cairns Fudge reins for 2008, big things are expected from him both on and off the pitch!

KRISTIAN JENSEN

Dane

CLUB PRESIDENT & 2008 VICE-CAPTAIN

BATTING: Right handed, lower order batsman.
Favourite shot is the back-foot cover drive and the ‘planted foot’ guide over gully.

BOWLING: The Billericay Express!
Opening strike bowler, top wicket taker and bowler of the season in 2007.

FIELDING: A committed diver and his football ‘slide tackling’ stops are legendary!

Kristian is Cairns Fudge’s premiere bowler and is often the captain’s ‘go-to’ man in times of difficulty. His batting stroke play down the order can help accelerate any innings and is developing into a decent all-rounder! A key club member and now Vice Captain for 2008 only adds to his club responsibilities.

DAF HOWELLS

DafH

CLUB FIXTURES & WEBSITE MANAGER

BATTING: Right handed, middle order batsman.
Favourite shot is the square cut or the leg-side nurdle off the pads!

BOWLING: A mystery…
Leg-spin, leg-cutters or moon balls – a mixed bag on every occasion, but something always happens when brought on.

FIELDING: Fielder of the season in 2007 through taking the most catches, the least drops (!) and through his committed and determined shot stopping.

Daf is co-founder of Cairns Fudge Cricket Club and is the clubs biggest fan! Captain for the two opening seasons in 2005 & 2006, web co-ordinator and fixtures & social secretary, Daf is an integral cog in the CFCC machine. A good man to have in the side, his dogged batting, leadership and fierce competitiveness always shines through on every occasion

ANDY SMALL

Smally

CLUB TREASURER & TOUR CO-ORDINATOR

BATTING: Right handed, top order batsman.
Favourite shot is the lofted straight drive or the baseball pull for 6 over mid-wicket! 2007 top run scorer and batsman of the season.

BOWLING: Grunting off-spin.
Surprisingly successful in 2007 and was the 4th highest wicket taker. Gets through his overs like lightening and once completed an over in 10 seconds!

FIELDING: Wicket keeper for the majority of games but is also a quick thinking fielder and has taken some blinding catches…with the odd drop!

Andy is co-founder of CFCC and captained the side in 2007. The top run scorer in the club’s history and has scored the only ton (112 not out). Chief tour organiser for a 3rd year running, we are expecting bigger & better things in Wales! Andy raised the bar in 2007…so good luck in 2008 Drew!

IAN FRANCIS

Ian

2008 CLUB INDOOR CAPTAIN

BATTING: Right handed, opening/top order batsman.
Favourite shot is cover drive all along the ground and the very late cut.

BOWLING: Moon balls interlinked with off-spin.
Not given the opportunity to bowl much in 2007 but did pick up his maiden  Fudge wicket vs Holton.

FIELDING: A committed diver and shot stopper, Ian is always in the action and ran close for fielder of the season in 2007. Not keen on fielding in the slips though after wicket-keeper Smally parried one into his cheek during the 2007 Fudge cup…eyes on the ball next time Ian!

Ian joined Cairns Fudge at the beginning of 2007 and always gave 110% with the bat, ball or with his hamster–like running in the field. The find of the season in 2007 and was deservedly voted Players Player!

SIMON WEAVER

Sai

2008 TOUR CO-ORDINATOR

BATTING: Dangerous right-handed batsman.
Favourite shot is the 4 iron duck-hook or 7 iron punch!

BOWLING: The ‘Ban-Sai’.
Leg-spin, off-spin, googlies…you name it, he can bowl it and rarely knows which one he’s bowling! Wicket less in 2007 but put up a good fight.

FIELDING: Fielder of the season in 2005 but had a tougher time in 2007 as the ball seemed to follow him wherever he was placed on the park. Si had some tough chances but was always prepared to put his body on the line.

Si is a valuable member of the Cairns Fudge network and has been an integral cog in the Tour arrangements to both Weymouth in 2006 and Isle of Man in 2007. Now promoted to Chief Tour Co-ordinators, both he and Smally have their work cut out to make Wales 2008 the best tour ever!

NICK WAKEHAM

Wako

BATTING: Right handed, lower order batsman.
Favourite shot is the dab down to 3rd man or the waft between 1st & 2nd slip.

BOWLING: Right arm, fast-medium.
Nick turned some heads and took his maiden 6 wickets in 2007. A ‘wana-be go-to man’ and so watch out for big things in 2008!

FIELDING: A fearless stopper and arguably has the biggest arm in the Cairns Fudge team.

Nick was one of the most improved bowlers in 2007 and rose to every occasion. He has been a committed member both on and off the pitch which has earned him the new Chairman position. The dizzy heights at the top of the tree for Nick in 2008!

DAVE JEFFREY

Dave

ALL-ROUNDER & FINES VICTIM

BATTING: Right handed, versatile top or middle order batsman.
Favourite shot is the straight drive or the nurdle down to third-man.

BOWLING: Military-medium Mark Earlham swing bowler.
Dave took 13 wickets in 2007, which included best figures of 3 wickets for 2 runs in just one over.

FIELDING: A great catcher and has the ability to juggle a high ball and also catch with his stomach.

Dave is The Fudge utility player. Top scored with 47 in 2007 as an opening batsman, has also ‘upped the anti’ in the middle order and has even steadied the ship when batting with the tail. A solid all-rounder and will be a key player in 2008 both on and off the pitch.

JIM CLARK

Jim

ALL-ROUNDER

BATTING: Right handed, top order batsman.
Favourite shot unknown…but looks to play very straight and correctly!

BOWLING: The Moulsford Swinger!
A gifted swing bowler and took his maiden Fudge wickets in 2007 – 2 for 47 vs United Oxford Hospitals.

FIELDING: Has put his shins on the line for The Fudge already – and we’re hoping for more of the same in 2008!

Jim played 3 games for Cairns Fudge in 2007 (one in each form of the game - indoor, 40 over and 20 over) and has turned some heads each time. Arguably the most technically correct batsman in the ranks and will be a great addition in the bowling department. Jim’s captaincy experience & coaching ability will be put to good use in 2008!

MARK KEMP

DrMark

FAST BOWLER & TOP ORDER BATSMAN

BATTING: Right handed, top/middle order batsman.
Old school technique - refuses to play any shot on the leg-side. Favourite shot is the upper cut over gully/point & the tickle to third man past his bails.

BOWLING: Right arm, fast. Fast economical opening bowler with a tight action and skiddy delivery. Watch out for the shooter and the gazunder.

FIELDING: An excellent off side fielder with good hands, and a sharp turn of pace. Run a quick single on his throw at your peril.

Dr Mark is part of the old guard. He is arguably CFCC’s top performing all-rounder, with his consistent batting and tight bowling. Has still to pass the 50 mark for Fudge (although he is in fact a centurion!) and has admitted to sleepless nights dreaming about spin. He can’t handle it.

BARNEY GUEST

Barney

BATTING: Right handed, middle order
Favours getting his tough guy guns out by avoiding dull defensive play.  When hand and eye are working he will regularly threaten the boundary with a strong off drive.

BOWLING: Awkwardly paced seamers
Barnaby boasts an impressive repertoire of deliveries that surprise him as much as his opponents.  An in form Barney will attack you with a seamer that relentlessly hunts the wicket.

FIELDING:Quick off the mark and runs down balls like a dog with its balls dipped in acid.  A strong arm who’s accuracy improves with beer.

Barnaby has been a fierce competitor for the fudge and has used his slightly unorthodox technique to great effect.  During the off season Barnaby is working on his bowling so one to watch for 2008.

NICK CUDAHY

NickC

BATTING: Right handed, top/mid order batsman
Nick makes rare appearances for the fudge and only played a total of 3 innings for the fudge in ’07.  Never one to practise but a sound technique and strong cover drive will certainly earn the fudge some runs this season.

BOWLING: Right arm, fast – a.k.a. Gas Man
The man with the longest run up for the fudge earned himself acclaim as the bowler of the tour in 2007.  Known as “gas man” Nick throws an accurate Jaffa which is an exceptionally well bowled, practically unplayable delivery.  His best performance was 4 wickets for 29 runs in ‘07 – scintillating

FIELDING:Nick is quick thinking with a strong accurate arm with a history of catching opponents out of their crease.  Only play acting and showboating will hold back this promising talent.

Nick has made rare appearances for the Fudge over the last 2 to 3 seasons and will continue to take part for many London fixtures in 2008.

NICK RAGG

Raggy

BATTING:  Right hand, middle/lower order
Raggys batted for a total of 13 innings for Cairns Fudge in ’07 with a top score of 14 not out.  Raggy makes a lot of effort to attend a majority of fixtures which deservedly has earned him 2007 players player??

BOWLING:Right arm, medium pace
On his day accurate and awkward rising balls owing to Raggy's towering height cause opponents some difficulty.  Bowled 6 overs in 2007 and took a crucial wicketRaggys killer delivery is the straight one, catching the watchful batsmen off guard after the few not so straight ones that precede it.

FIELDING: Raggy is capable of some incredible acrobatics on the field.  Gets behind any ball and is now developing strongly as a unorthodox Fudge wicket keeper.

One of the most committed fudge players who attends a majority of fixtures and a cracking team man. Raggy is also very handy at unsettling opponents with some amazing sledging skills and bodily functions.

MATT JOHNSTON

MattJ

TOP ORDER BATSMAN & FAST BOWLER

BATTING: Right handed, top order batsman.
Favourite shots are the leg glance through square leg to the boundary and the lofted straight drive.

BOWLING: Right arm, fast.
Opening bowler capable of swinging the ball viciously, and gets faster every season! Watch out for the in-dipper and the off-cutter.

FIELDING: A great fielder with superb athleticism and a great arm. Tireless in the outfield, and the creator of many a run-out opportunity.

Matt was CFCC’s most improved player in 2007 and will be keen to stake a claim as The Fudge’s premier all-rounder in 2008. Plays for all but 4 of Oxfordshire’s cricket clubs, but says Cairns Fudge is by far his favourite. A big season is expected from CFCC’s future captain in the making.

GUY HATFIELD

Guy

FAST BOWLER & LOWER ORDER BATSMAN

BATTING:
Right handed, lower order batsman.
Favourite shots are the square cut and the hook to cow corner. Currently perfecting the Marillier shot so look out wicket-keepers!

BOWLING: Right arm, fast.
Opening bowler who has bowled CFCC’s quickest ever ball at 86mph. More the capable of producing savage bounce so watch out for the rib-tickler.

FIELDING: A Hyper fielder with great commitment and a ferocious through. Has put his body on the line to save a boundary on many an occasion.

Guy is one of the Cairns Fudge old guard, and his super-quick opening bowling has led the way to much of CFCC’s success. When his eye is in he is an important aggressive rear-gunning batsman, so hopefully the all-rounder can make a great impact in 2008!

JAMES RACE

JimmyRay

TOP ORDER BATSMAN & WICKET-KEEPER

BATTING: Right handed, top order batsman.
Favourite shot is the lofted hook over mid-wicket and the carted cut over point. Where ever it’s going, it will most likely be aerial.

BOWLING:  Right arm, slow-medium. Notorious for the medium-slow trundler with a hint of leg spin. Watch out for the zooter and the beamer.

FIELDING:  A superb wicket-keeper known for his excellent technique, quick thinking, and savage sledging.

James - known as ‘Jimmy Ray’ is finally making his long awaited transfer from rivals Holton CC. He will be keen to stamp his authority on The Fudge top order with his agricultural power slapping. An athletic close fielder with safe hands but don’t put him on the boundary; last time he ran was 2001.

RICH FITT

Phil White

FAST BOWLER & LATE ORDER BATSMAN

BATTING: Right handed, middle to late order batsman.
A versatile innings finisher - favourite shot is the lofted straight drive back over the bowlers head, and the Surrey cut.

BOWLING: A tall fast opening bowler, who produces good bounce and movement off the seam. Watch out for the perfume ball and the rib tickler.

FIELDING: A dependable fielder with a good pair of mitts and a great arm from distance – no chance of running two when he’s out in the deep.

Rich has been a steady performer for Cairns Fudge right from the start and was part of the very first Fudge XI. His fast, economical opening spells have paved the way to many a Fudge win. His powerful finishing with the bat has often been cut short by his camel-like lolloping between the wickets.

JONNY MEDWIN

Jonny

MIDDLE ORDER BATSMAN & SWING BOWLER

BATTING: Right handed, middle order batsman.
A resilient mid-order batsman with an elegant traditional style. Favourite shot is front foot cover drive and the leg-side nurdle.

BOWLING: Right arm, medium - with tendency for producing big swing. He is a key bowler at the death with his tight line and consistent good length.

FIELDING: Extremely versatile and nippy in the field, often capable of inspiring a quick fire run out. Has safe hands and a thirst for the limelight.

Jonny made his CFCC debut last year, and in his first game bowled the crucial final over of the match for just 1 run to secure victory for The Fudge. Is often called upon to steady an innings and thrives under pressure. Jonny is CFCC’s Youth scout and says his baby girl has talent and is one to watch!

TOM RAE

Phil White

SPIN BOWLER & MIDDLE ORDER BATSMAN

BATTING: Right handed middle order batsman.
Favourite shots are the leg-glance, the forward defence and the waft between wicket-keeper and 1st slip.

BOWLING: Right arm, slow off-breaks. These ghostly off-spinners take a long time to come down, but watch out for the popper and the doosra.

FIELDING: An eager, agile fielder with an accurate throw.  Quick in the outfield and will appeal for anything.

Made his CFCC debut in last years Fudge Cup and produced a superb bowling display claiming the key Spitfire scalps of Andy Kemp and Dave Jeffrey. His watchful batting helped decelerate the Dynamo’s traditional batting collapse. An invaluable team player.

MARK SMALL

MarkS

TOP ORDER BATSMAN

BATTING: Right-hander, top order batsman.
Favourite shot is the cover-drive or the pull for 6!

BOWLING: Moon balls and trundlers.Yet to bowl his first ball in Fudge colours…but is only a matter of time!

FIELDING: A very athletic fielder and committed shot stopper. A great man to have in the covers and is a great catcher! Mark is also a very capable wicket-keeper and so strengthens the options in this area.

Mark made his debut at the end of the 2007 season where he took the Wootton & Boars Hill 6-a-side tournament by storm! He top scored in the competition with 47 not out in the allotted 5 overs vs ISIS to secure 3rd position for Cairns Fudge. We’re expecting a lot more of the same in 2008!

MARK CARROLL

Randle

FAST BOWLER AND MIDDLE ORDER BAT

BATTING: Right handed, middle order batsman.
This guy doesn’t hang about. A nose for a bad ball and when he sniffs, the boundary stinks. The cut and the pull are 2 faves.

BOWLING: Consistent line and length with regular movement through the air. Always on the money and a threat at any stage in the innings.

FIELDING: Throwing can be erratic keeping those backing up on their toes but capable of laser beams from the covers. A natural athlete in the field, speed is dictated by his level of cake consumption at tea.

One of the originals of 2004 and a loyal servant to the Fudge since day one. Took himself on a 1.5 year training camp to New Zealand to hone his skills but ended up finding himself and growing his hair. Kareoke king at the Hog Roast and a good egg all round.

MATT CORREAL

Matt

MIDDLE ORDER BATSMAN

BATTING: Right handed, middle order batsman.
Favourite shot is the cover drive but Matt’s main strength lies in his doggedness and determination.

BOWLING: One of the finds of last season, especially in the match vs Little Chart. Looping medium pace which is developing season by season.

FIELDING: Not the greatest of catchers but provides good vibes in the field. A scholar of the sledge, he will have you in tears.

Matt is another Fudge stalwart and his love of the club and the game has made key contribution since 2004. He has played some important innings on the field and just as crucially contributed whole heartily to social events off the field. Good club man and Batsman of the year in 2005.

JIMMY FARGHER

Jimmy

FAST BOWLER AND MIDDLE ORDER BAT

BATTING: Left handed, middle order batsman.
Very good in the V down the picth and dispatching short balls square of the wicket.

BOWLING: Record holding Fudge bowler
One of the few left handers in the team, Jimmy’s pitched up left arm gas has been very effective over the years and continues to improve!

FIELDING: Big guy, big heart and if chafing or a hangover doesn’t set in he is useful around the ground.

Staple and important member of the club  who’s banter and sense of humour really add to the club atmos on match days. As a local., a key man to have on tour to the Isle of Man in 2007 and is working hard to develop our midweek side in London.

PHIL WHITE

Phil White

FAST BOWLER

BATTING: Left handed, lower order batsman.
Phil can whack the ball pretty hard especially in the nets. No notable Fudge performances with the bat but the potential for a late innings cameo soon are huge.

BOWLING: Right arm Fast
When Phil is on song then few batsmen can handle the heat. He uses his superior intelligence to work batters out. When he cant do that, he just knocks them over with a peach.

FIELDING: A rare specialist in the short square leg position, Phil can do a job under the lid which is very useful to the team when applying pressure. Plenty of energy in the field and a good arm.

Another Holton recruit, Phil has helped out the side on a number of occasions and this could be the season he goes galactic in the Fudge Cap. Staple in the Fudge Cup over the past few seasons, this could be a break through season for Phil with bat and ball.

CHRIS BROUGHAM

Phil White

ALL-ROUNDER

BATTING: Right handed, top order batsman.
Favourite shot is the hockey hook off his pads through mid-wicket. A technically correct batsman with a sensible head, he is the only Fudge player to have ever scored a century in Twenty20 cricket…and so is a welcome addition to The Fudge armoury!

BOWLING: The bowling prodigy!
Arguably the fastest bowler in The Fudge ranks and always puts in 100%! He regularly bowls himself off his feet trying to hit the 100mph mark and is extremely competitive.

FIELDING: Chris has a great pair of hands, is a fearless shot stopper and is lightening across the outfield (…he runs the 400 metres in just over 50 seconds!).

Chris made his debut for Cairns Fudge in 2007 when he played just the one game. Exams to The Fudge rescue in 2008, Chris is available for the majority of the first half of the season and is a great addition to the team both on and off the pitch.

DAN WILLIAMS

Phil White

ALL ROUNDER

BATTING: Right handed, middle order batsman.
Favourite shot is the front foot push into the covers or the nurdle down to third man.

BOWLING: Angry off-cutters Bowling his first overs in 2008!

FIELDING: Very committed in the field, with a good cricketing brain.

Dan made his debut this season and is a good man to have in the side. His angry, small man & moody personality always gives the team a good lift...especially on cold and wet days! Big things are expected of Dan, this season and beyond.

ALEX TAYLOR MAUGHAN

Phil White

ALL ROUNDER

BATTING: Right handed, middle order batsman.
Favourite shot is the front foot drive or the back foot lofted extra drive.

BOWLING: Aggressive, fast bowling.
Bowling his first overs in 2008, Alex looks to be reasonable pacey and accurate!

FIELDING: A great fielder; very athletic and committed with the ability to pull off stunning catches.

Alex is another debutant in the 2008 season and has proven to be a fantastic find both on and off the pitch. He puts himself under a lot of pressure each time he plays, which is great to see, and his commitment to the cause is always second to none. This also makes him sweat quite a lot!

TIM DIAMOND

Phil White

BOWLER & BIG HITTING BATSMAN

BATTING: Right handed, lower order batsman.
Favourite shot is the back foot, lofted straight swipe for 6!

BOWLING: Fast & nippy…off just 2 paces.
Bowling his first overs in 2008 for about 20 years, Tim has shown great promise…

FIELDING: A great fielder with the ability to throw the stumps down from any where on the pitch.

Tim is yet another find in the 2008 season and has re-found his love the cricket after a number of years. His batting is coming along nicely and (once he buys some cricket shoes!) he will develop into a real handful with the ball too!
