News13 July...CFCC DOWN TO EARTH WITH A BUMP AGAINST VISCOUNT Good bowling from Kristian Jensen (3 for 29), Mark Kemp (3 for 28 & half colours!), Jimmy Fargher (2 for 41) and Nick Cudahy (1 for 27), coupled with great catching from Cudahy (2), Kent, Howells & Andy Kemp, held the West London hosts to 196 for 9. CFCC struggled to 87 all out in replay (Kent 18) and were found wanting against the very straight Viscount attack. 3 big losses from 3 games against the West Indies ‘A’ team. 12 July 2008...FIRST SILVERWARE FOR CFCC IN THE ISIS 6-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT CFCC over came 5 teams to lift the trophy in the annual ISIS 6-a-side tournament. Andrew Milne (c), James Race (w), Kristian Jensen, Andy Small, Jim Clark, Alex Taylor-Maughan, Dave Jeffrey and Mark Small finished the tournament unbeaten and took on a strong Enstone 6 in the final. CFCC smashed 75 for 2 off 5 overs (A. Milne 39* and A. Small 15) and Enstone’s innings finished well short in reply through some tight bowling & sharp fielding. 02 Jul 2008...9 MAN FUDGE SHOCK WOOTTON & BOARS HILL Andrew Milne (2 for 8) and Jim Clark’s tight opening spell, coupled with VJ (2 wickets), Kristian Jensen & Dave Jeffrey (1 wicket each), held WBH to just 84 for 8 off 20 overs. Skipper Milne and Clark swapped ball for bat and proceeded to knock off all 84 runs in just 9 overs. Milne finished on 56 not out and 9 man CFCC won by 10 wickets. 29 Jun 2008...FIRST FUDGE TON IN 2008 SEES OFF SWANMORE 4 wickets from Andrew Milne and 2 from Chris Brougham reduced Swanmore to 191 for 9 off 40 overs. Dave Jeffrey, Andy Small & debutant VJ also picked up a wicket a piece. James Race smashed 105* in reply (including 6 sixes & his second 50 in just 17 balls). Race was well backed up Chris Brougham (58*) and CFCC won by 9 wickets with 12 overs to spare. 24 Jun 2008...CFCC EDGE GARSINGTON IN TWENTY/20 THRILLER A captain’s innings by skipper Andrew Milne steered Cairns Fudge to a defendable 130 for 6 off 20 overs. Milne finished unbeaten on 37 & was well supported by Mark Small (38) and Nick Ragg (12). Chris Brougham (2 for 17) was the pick of the bowlers, with Dave Jeffrey, Guy Hatfield & Alex Taylor-Maughan all picked up a wicket a piece to hold Garsington 4 runs short of their target 18 Jun 2008...GENTLEMAN OF WEST LONDON HOLD NERVE IN TENSE FINAL OVER The Gentlemen of West London CC held off a battling display from CFCC to win by 2 wickets with a ball to spare in Kingston. Debutant and Man of the Match Steve Kent made 53 and Jimmy Fargher swashbuckled 33 to help the Fudge to 166. Sharp bowling from Jensen, Boden and Kent forced a tense final over with Fudge trying to force a tie but GOWLCC got the single they needed with a ball to spare. 17 Jun 2008...CFCC SELECT XI SMASH UOHs BY 107 RUNS Andy Small top scored with 75 to help CFCC post 244 for 8 off 40 overs & the highest score in 2008 so far. Matt Johnston (41) & Chris Brougham (38) also chipped in with the bat. Phil White (3 for 9) and debutant Mark Brougham (2 for 17) his first wickets in senior cricket!) starred with the ball and Hospitals were held to 137 for 9 off 40 overs. 10 Jun 2008...MARK SMALL ROCKETS TO THE TOP OF THE JOHN DEERE 6’S CHART! Mark Small hit 4 sixes against Matfield and 1 against Little Chart to take him into double figures for the season (11), putting him 4 clear at the top. James Race and Chris Brougham are stuck on 7 and now joined by Andy Small who blasted 2 big ones against Matfield. Dave Jeffrey is the latest addition to the list, hitting his first ever 6 against Matfield! 9 Jun 2008...CFCC BLAST AWAY MATFIELD (KENT TOUR, MATCH 1) Openers Mark Small (55* retired) and Ian Francis (43) shot out the blocks yet again. Dave Jeffrey (51*) snuck over 50 and was well supported by Andy Small (30*). CFCC scored 208 off 25 overs. Maiden 2008 wickets for Tom Small (2), John Small (1) and Ian Francis (1), along with Dave Jeffrey (2) saw CFCC close Matfield out 80 runs short. 01 Jun 2008...CFCC TAKE ON THE OLD ENEMY CFCC travelled to a familiar hunting ground to take on Holton. After an early scare, James Race (36), Chris Brougham (33) and Jim Clark (38*) steered CFCC to a very defendable 152 for 8 off 40 overs. Chris Brougham (3 wickets) & Dan Williams (2) were the pick of the bowlers & Mark Small collected his fielding half-colours (4 dismissals). CFCC won by 26 runs and make it 8 wins from 8 games 30 May 2008...CFCC NOTCH UP A RECORD 7TH WIN IN A ROW CFCC’s impressive opening run of wins continued against ISIS in the first of two Twenty20 matches. Mark Small (65) and Ian Francis’ (60) opening partnership of 110 was the bulk of the 170 runs, with Alex Taylor-Maughan chipping in with a quick fire 13 at the death. CFCC restricted ISIS to 118 for 9 of their 20 overs – 52 runs short of the target. 23 May 2008...TWENTY20 RECORDS TUMBLE VS UOH Cairns Fudge smash 219 for 3 off 20 overs in a blistering display of hitting vs UOH. Mark Small (70) and Chris Brougham (77) notched up a record breaking opening partnership of 135 in less than 10 overs. Debutant Alex Taylor-Maughan also took 3 well deserved wickets. An unbeaten partnership between Ian Francis (26*) and Andy Small (46*) saw Cairns Fudge home with 5 wickets to spare after an early scare. Wednesday 28th May...RECENT FINES FROM FINE MASTER DAVE JEFFREY JAMES RACE - relentlessly sledging a twelve year old, massive reaction to getting a twelve year out who he had been previously sledging, describing the fines master as being "weak" also know as 'fine baiting.' ANDY SMALL - running like a girl, dropped catch, ruthlessly hitting a twelve year old bowler out of the ground ANDREW MILNE - wearing huge pants, allowing Smally to bowl an extra over so that he can get a five wicket haul. JULIA GIBBS - telling everyone that André Milné wears huge pants quote "they look like tents when you hang them on the line." Monday 20th May 2008…JOHN DEERE 6’S COMPETITION UPDATE Andy Small rocketed to the top of the John Deere 6’s chart this weekend with three monsters against Wootton & Boars Hill. Small has now hit 5 big ones and is one clear of Jimmy Ray on 4. Mark Small is next on 2, followed by Ian Francis on 1, now also joined by Tim Diamond and skipper Andrew Milne, who both opened their accounts over the weekend. Monday 20th May 2008…‘TOITE LIKE A TOIGER’ MAIDENS COMPETITION UPDATE Andrew Milne is still top of the leader board with 10 maidens, but failed to move himself even clearer in the last match. Andy Small is in the second place spot on 6, followed by Chris Brougham on 4 and then a new entry on 3 – Kristian Jensen, who’s first three overs on Sunday were maidens. Watch out skipper, the Billericay Express is after you… Monday 20th May 2008…CFCC UNEARTH TWO CRACKING NEW FINDS Debutants Tim Diamond and Alex Taylor-Maughan both stared for The Fudge over the weekend. Diamond scored 33 and took a valuable wicket against ISIS and Taylor-Maughan took 3 for 25 against Wootton & Boars Hill to open their Fudge accounts in fine style! Diamond’s last game was as a 10 year old and Taylor-Maughan has been brought up through the Oxford Brookes system and both are hungry to perform again. Watch this space! Saturday 17th May 2008…CFCC SEE OFF ISIS IN TORID CONDITIONS (MATCH 4) Ian Francis lead the field with a defiant 44 not out to help Cairns Fudge post an impressive 182 for 7 in wet & difficult conditions. Debutant Tim Diamond smashed a quick fire 33 to finish the innings in emphatic style. Andy Small and Andrew Milne both took 2 wickets a piece and along with 3 well taken run outs (brothers Small x2 and a direct hit from Diamond) held ISIS 30 runs short of their target. Saturday 10th May 2008…CFCC CRUSH UOH BY 9 WICKETS (MATCH 3) Jim Clark (2 for 6) and Phil White (2 for 23) were the pick of the bowlers and CFCC held UOH to 90 in 36 overs. Dave Jeffrey, Andrew Milne, Andy Small and Matt Correal all chipped in with 1 wicket & Correal doubled up with a cracking catch to open his account! Mark Small (49*) and James Race (26*) blasted UOH away in only 16.3 overs to notch up CFCC’s 3rd win in a row. Saturday 4th May 2008…CFCC SEE OFF HORSPATH 3RDS (MATCH 2) Man of the match Chris Brougham finished with 5 overs, 3 wickets for
10 runs to restrict Horspath to 63 all out. Brougham was well backed up
by Guy Hatfield (3 – 19), Andrew Milne (2 – 10) and Rich Fitt,
who only went for 9 runs in his opening 5 overs. Saturday 26th April 2008…CFCC OFF THE MARK VS OXONFORD (MATCH 1) Oxonford were held to 139 all out in the 2008 season opener at Warneford.
Dave Jeffrey (1 for 23) and Andrew Milne (8 overs, 5 maidens, 3 wickets
for 4 runs!) put the breaks on after an opening partnership of 50. Chris
Brougham & Phil White also finished with 2 wickets each. Saturday 19th April 2008…2008 SEASON CURTAIN RAISER Oxford Fudge took on a developing London Fudge team in an attempt to dust off the cobwebs and get everyone geared up for the start of the 2008 season. Oxford won the toss and notched up 254 for 8 in the allotted 40 overs. Jim Clark off the mark with a well worked 52* in torrid, winter conditions! Ian Francis, Chris Brougham, Matt Johnston and James Race all put in good performances to get them up and running. Kristian Jensen and Nick Cudahy both finished with 2 wickets each for London Fudge. Chris Brougham finished with 3 wickets and was well supported by Phil White, Dave Jeffrey and Andy Small, who all finished with 2 wickets each, to hold London Fudge to 141 all out. Paul Griffiths was the pick of the London batsman and was adjudged LBW for a brilliant 83. Cairns Fudge was the winner on the day and everyone battled the early season conditions to either have a good bat or bowl and the much anticipated 2008 season under new management was well underway! |
